After entering the city's modeling industry, she discovers that her vitality and youth are fed on by a team of beauty-obsessed females who will use any methods to obtain exactly what she has.
In January 2015, Dazed reported that the manuscript for the movie was inspired by Elizabeth Báthory. [5] In going over the script, which Refn co-wrote with Mary Laws, he mentioned: "I made a decision that I 'd made sufficient films concerning terrible males, and I intended to do a movie with only ladies in the film, therefore I did this story since my other half would only go to L.A. if we needed to travel from Copenhagen. She's like, 'I'm done with Asia. I will just do Los Angeles.' Owen Gleiberman of Variety offered the movie a favorable review writing: "A horror film is exactly what "The Neon Devil" is (sort of).
